As we embark upon presenting the American Premiere of Heart of Darkness, we want to uphold our goal of engaging our audience with compelling new works. One way we do this is by bringing the story to life with the creative use of artwork and new technology. The rich symbolism found in Heart of Darkness’ libretto will be enhanced by the use of a completely immersive art installation that will include the 60 giant tusks and will now be integrated amidst the large panels of Matt Kish’s art.

Thanks to the generous support of 45 backers, we have achieved our original $7000 goal for this Kickstarter campaign which will fund the fabrication of 60 life-sized tusks – an essential part of our production and our effort to bring attention to the horrors of the ivory trade.

As we move forward with the project, we’re hoping to raise an additional $5,000 to support this visual art→opera collision.

The lobby will be festooned with large panels (12′ x 8′) of Matt Kish’s spectacular artwork for Heart of Darkness, which will be embedded between the life-sized tusks.
