Opera Parallele invites you to join us for the San Francisco premiere of composer Osvaldo Golijov’s Ainadamar, with performances Friday through Sunday, February 15 – 17, 2013 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Lam Research Theater.
Ainadamar is inspired by the confrontation between poet Federico Garcia Lorca and the Fascist regime during the Spanish Civil War. This poignant story, with a libretto by award winning playwright David Henry Hwang (M Butterfly, Chinglish), is told in flashback through the eyes of actress Margarita Xirgu, Lorca’s muse and most fervent advocate.
Under the baton of Nicole Paiement, in a production conceived and directed by Brian Staufenbiel, this fiery opera artfully combines singing, visual arts (with new video mapping technology) and flamenco.
The cast includes soprano Marnie Breckenridge as Margarita Xirgu, mezzo-soprano Lisa Chavez as Federico Garcia Lorca, and soprano Maya Kherani as Nuria.
