Opera Parallèle’s Hands-on-Opera presented Peter Maxwell Davies’ The Spiders’ Revenge to a standing room only crowd in the California Academy of Sciences’ Forum Theater on November 2nd, 2013. The student singers and instrumentalists from Daniel Webster Elementary put on a great show in celebration of National Opera Week. The Opera Parallèle team is grateful to the army of interns, board members, Academy team members, parents, and teachers who worked very hard to make The Spiders’ Revenge a great success. Please enjoy some wonderful pictures of the performance taken by Steve Di Bartolomeo.
Opera Parallèle teamed up with a group of SFUSD elementary students and the California Academy of Sciences to present a collaborative production of the children’s opera, The Spiders’ Revenge by Peter Maxwell-Davies. Written to be performed by young people, this engaging tale invites children to discover the wonders of the insect world and ultimately acknowledge that there is a place for each of us on the earth.
Artistic direction was handled by our Educational Programs Manager, Roma Olvera, under the guidance of Opera Parallèle’s resident stage director and concept designer, Brian Staufenbiel and Artistic Director and Conductor, Nicole Paiement. The production is part of Opera Parallèle’s Hands-On Opera program, made possible with the generous support of the Kimball Foundation.
